STALLINGS wins the Jarreau Cup a
year after finishing Runner-Up
October 5, 2008
CHESAPEAKE, Virginia (TAGT) – Virginia Beach’s Mark
Stallings was scoreboard watching at this year’s Local
Championship on Sunday. Looking to see if anyone behind
him would gain enough points to over take his Chase Cup
points lead. Stallings was the 2007 Runner-Up to Rommel
Fulinara in the B-Flight.
This year Stallings shot an 81 in the first round of the Local
Finals at Cahoon Plantation. That was good enough to get him
into the final group on Sunday with Round 1 Leader Ed Dyer
(80-79) and eventual B-Flight Local Champion. Once Stallings
saw that Dyer was in control on Sunday he knew, if he played a
good game and finished in the Top-5 no one could catch him.
Stallings did just that with his (81-86) 4th place finish at
Cahoon Plantation.
During 2008 Stallings won Back-to-Back tournaments at
Riverfront with a 78 and Bide A Wee with a 77. When asked
after his Chase Cup victory what he wants out of Hilton Head,
he said “I want US to win the VALA, last year still hasn’t set well
with me”.
Stallings earned $1175 dollars in Gift Cards during 2008, just
one of many tour players to break the $1000 dollar mark. “It
was good to see Mark finally play well in a tour Major” said Tour
Director, Lyle Joyner. Stallings placement in the majors in
2008 (11th – Players Championship ; T18 – Tidewater Masters
; 14th – VA Amateur Championship ; [N/A] Kiskiack ; 4th – Local
Finals). His last Top-5 finish in a tour major was at the 2007
Local Finals played at Cahoon Plantation where he tied for 5th.
Congrats Mark on your 2008 Chase Cup Championship!
